Euripides in Ptolemaic Egypt

Papyri of Euripides in the Hellenistic Period far exceeded any other Classical
author (except for Homer). Fragments of his plays were extracted for school use, for
inclusion in anthologies, and for various types of performance. Many of the myths
treated in these found plays are reflected in what Hellenistic poets write, including
genealogies relevant to Ptolemaic self-fashioning and the linking of the space of the
new city with old Greece.
